This is how I add news and city links to my home screen to stay updated on local government happenings regularly.

if you haven't seen my recent blog post where I talk about the book "atomic habits" by james clear, prepare to be sick of me!
i've been working on efficiency and progress over perfection and it's helped me keep a healthy mindset. and it’s helping me stay focused and be more intentional.
i also love redesigning my life in small, simple ways that make me more efficient --- one way I've done that as a civicly engaged citizen and local government reporter is by:
organizing my phone home screens.
trust me, it helps.
I'm sure android offers a similar function, and I'll look to see what information I can find about it.
i have an iPhone, and to add web URLs to your home screen as an "app" --- use the "add to home screen" function on safari (internet browser). I did this to access my favorite local government resources easily, especially when I'm on the go in between assignments or just want to check on something.

first, I downloaded my publication's app, the capital times.
second, I added links to the cap times' government, education and my own coverage. the app will send notifications for breaking news stories and newsletters, but if you just want the politics news, this is more helpful (for me) than newsletter notifications in my inbox. I get way too many now, and it's become hard to keep up.
third, add as many links to your home screen as you can --- use this feature to say engaged with local politics. follow that piece of legislation before it becomes a hotton button issue. attend committee meetings and speak up during public comment.
i downloaded the city’s meeting page, the legistar view of the daily meetings, the page to watch city meetings, and my go-to news outlets: pbs wisconsin, wort fm, npr, and the wisconsin examiner for starters.
you can also stay engaged with me, the local government reporter by downloading the mobile app, or bookmarking the website www.enjoyiana.com to your homepage for updates on local goverment behind-the-scenes and personal content. join my online group to stay engaged in story ideas, leads, and ideas for sources. you can also work with me to organize or host a community listening session. contact my work email: enururdin@captimes.com
I hope this helps! let me know if you enjoy engaging with local politics this way.
