Goal Statement:
I’m a journalist and creative storyteller interested in the places where people, politics, culture, history and media intersect.
My work moves from the local to the global and from the big picture to the deeply personal. I’m especially interested in local government and civic life, political theory, media and journalism, culinary arts and food history, culture, and the stories that help us better understand the world around us. At the heart of my work is a simple question: How can we tell more meaningful stories when we make room for the people living them?
This portfolio is a home for my journalism, writing, multimedia work and creative projects. It’s also a place to explore the ideas I’m developing beyond the traditional newsroom, including The Reporter’s Notebook, pinkcapricorntarot, astrology storytelling, podcasting, video and other forms of creative media.
I believe journalism can inform without flattening people into headlines, and storytelling can entertain while still making us more curious, thoughtful and connected. I’m interested in building bridges between communities, newsrooms, academia and the wider culture, using journalism, creative writing, multimedia production and the arts to keep the conversation moving.
For now, I’m continuing to report, create, collaborate and experiment. I’m interested in working with organizations and people whose missions intersect with my areas of curiosity and expertise, while continuing to build a body of work that can travel far beyond any single newsroom or medium.

I investigate the decisions, institutions and policies shaping communities, with particular interest in local government, public policy and the relationship between institutions and the people they serve.
My reporting experience has taught me how to quickly understand complicated systems, identify the questions that matter, cultivate sources, verify information and translate policy into stories that people can actually use.

Good storytelling starts with listening.
Through reporting, workshops, panels, guest lectures, community conversations and organizational partnerships, I've worked with journalists, elected officials, students, educators, creatives, community members and other stakeholders.
I’m particularly interested in creating spaces where complicated issues can be discussed plainly and where communities have opportunities to shape the stories being told about them.

My work often sits between journalism, research and creative production.
I've managed editorial teams, developed programming and events, conducted academic and journalistic research, coordinated production logistics and built independent media projects from the ground up.
My interests in politics, media studies, food history, culture and storytelling often overlap, allowing me to approach projects from both a researcher’s perspective and a creator’s perspective.
