Hi everyone!
I am super excited to introduce y'all to "It's a Black Woman's World" Book Club! This book club is accompanying the launch of one of my new projects, which will focus on highlighting positive representations of black womanhood in the media, and empowering black women's stories and experiences.
I want to increase public discussion around representation of black women in the media by engaging with the people who represent them; authors, journalists, writers, artists, publishers, editors, politicians, and other content creators. As a longtime multimedia journalist and now, bookseller, it's important to bring awareness to the importance of how we as black women are portrayed and creative positive change. The best place to start is by having a conversation. One place we can individually expand our awareness is with books!
I have started a reading list of titles across multiple genres that are predominantly written by, for, and about black women. I will publish articles, interviews, and features I do surrounding this topic on my website, as well. I will also update the group on what I am currently reading, and I'll also update the list as I find more titles. Eventually I want to be able to meet virtually and discuss a selected title, but for now, enjoy browsing through some of titles I picked out.
Be on the lookout for updates and new content! Please join the group if you're interested in connecting with other readers and sharing your thoughts on books you've read and would recommend! If you have titles you'd like to add to the list please feel free to share those as well. Enjoy!🤍📖
